Changes of retinal vessel density in low to moderate myopic eyes with orthokeratology evaluated by optical coherence tomography angiography

AIM: To explore the effect of orthokeratology (OK) fitting on retinal vessel density in low to moderate myopia adolescents by using optical coherence tomography angiography. METHODS: Children aged 10 14y with a cycloplegic spherical equivalent refraction −0.50 diopter (D) −5.00 D and astigmatism more than −1.50 were recruited. The enrolled divided into OK group spectacle group. During regular follow-up, measured respectively at pre-wear, 1, 3, 6mo after treatment. follow-up included uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), axial length (AL), superficial capillary plexus (SCPD), deep (DCPD), central thickness (CRT), foveal avascular zone area (FAZ-A), perimeter (FAZ-P) 300-µm-wide region around (FD-300). collected data analyzed statistical methods. RESULTS: By one month, SCPD significantly increased fovea superior retina, DCPD inferiorly compared (P<0.05). three months, there significant increases inferior parafovea, superior, retina (P<0.05), while increase observed six months FD-300 every No differences CRT, FAZ-A FAZ-P between two groups (P>0.05). showed improvement UDVA wearing OK, (P<0.01), AL did not show difference CONCLUSION: Short-term worn can local low-to-moderate myopia.
